California's teenagers must present completion of driver education, show proof of enrollment in driver training, and be 15 1/2 prior to applying for a learner's permit .. See Below
If you are under 18 you are required to take both driver education and driver training courses if you want your license prior to your 18th birthday.
Below is a list of the requirements for your permit and for your license. It is considered all one process. There is no minimum age to take driver's education. However, you must be at least 15 1/2 to apply for your permit.Your permit is issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. You will need your permit number and expiration dated prior to scheduling your driver's training lesson with us. You will also find required documentation you must bring to the DMV for processing someone for a California Provisional permit (under 18).
Qualifications:
1. Be at least 15 1/2
2. Present proof of completion in driver education. Proof is OL 237 you were issued in class.
3. You must also present proof of enrollment in driver's training. This is accomplished by presenting OL392. Obtain this certificate from the school you plan to take your training with.
4. Complete the application (DL44) with parents' signature
5. Provide your social security number
6. Present proof of legal presences - birth certificate - passport - green card, etc.
7. Pay the $27 fee
Then you will..
1. Take and pass the written test that is 46 test questions
2. Pass the eye exam - bring your glasses if you need them
Upon successful completion you will be issued your permit and it will be valid for 12-24 months. Check the expiration date.
Then you must...
1. Complete 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction with a licensed driving instructor.
2. Practice 50 hours with your parents. Ten hours must be at night.
3. Wait a minimum of 6 months from the date of permit issuance.
4. And prepare yourself for the road test. |
